Introduction

St Mary’s Island, which is Britain’s only planned new island community, is part of the wider community of Chatham Maritime.
St Mary’s Island is being undertaken by Countryside Properties in a joint venture with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA). Its 150 acres will comprise a new mixed-tenure community of some 2,000 new homes, as well as a community centre, school and doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, public open spaces and a marina.

Very high standards of planning, design and sustainability have been the critical factors in the success of the multi-award winning scheme and have enabled us to create a strong demand for housing for sale. Affordable homes are being dispersed throughout this new community. Recent housing phases achieve EcoHomes ratings of ‘Excellent’ and ‘Very Good’. Around 1,000 homes and all of the community facilities have been completed.

Chatham Maritime provides outstanding opportunities for business, educational and residential use within a site that already includes Medway’s Universities, the Dockside Outlet Centre and Chatham Maritime Marina.

The newest arrivals at Chatham Maritime are the themed attraction Dickens World and the Odeon multiplex cinema.

MHS homes, Medway's largest social landlord, also has its headquarters there.
